Guimarães welcomes the First Latin-American European 2015 Conference on Sustainable Buildings and Communities

The first Latin-American and European conference on Sustainble Buildings and Communities Euro-ELECS 2014 will be held on 21-23 July 2015, in Guimarães, in Portugal. This event is the evolution of several previous ELECS whish started in 1997 and were held biannually since 2001. Euro-ELECs 2015 is a innovative scientific event that aimsto bridge the gap between the academic environment, society, theory and practice connecting European countries and the countries of Latin America.

Guimarães is an historical city with an important role on the birth of Portugal. It was settled in the 9th century and its historical centre is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city is often called the “birthplace of the Portuguese nationality”. Also, Guimarães was the 2012 European Capital of Culture, the 2013 European City of Sport and is preparing the application to the 2017 European Green Capital Award.

Submission of papers should be either in English or Portuguese or Spanish. 23 conference themes are proposed and range from “Innovation and improvement of sustainable construction materials or systems”, to “Sustainable design solutions”, “Sustainable building technology and management” and “Nearly zero energy buildings”, among others.

All paper accepted to Euro-ELECS 2015 will be published in the Conference Proceedings. The best papers will be proposed to be published in the following journals: International Journal of Sustainable Building Technology and Urban Development, Revista Ambiente Construido, Revista Hábitat Sustentable. 2nd Net Zero-Energy Buildings Conference, Portugal, Lisbon

The 2nd Net Zero-Energy Buildings Conference is organized by the Faculty of Science and Technology of Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCT-UNL) and the National Energy and Geology Laboratory (LNEG) and will take place at the Auditorium Leopoldo Guimarães (CENIMAT), FCT-UNL, Campus de Caparica on Tuesday, 29th September, 2015.

The conference is dedicated to recent developments on Net-Zero Energy Buildings in Smart Cities where buildings are interactive nodes in the city energy flows featuring diverse renewable energy sources. In this context, the conference will feature presentations that highlight current challenges and emerging initiatives on the role of energy flexibility (in demand and supply) of buildings and the impact on the grid.

The conference aims to provide a platform for scientists, researchers, engineers, professionals, entrepreneurs, policy-makers and students to engage and discuss emerging trends in the field.
